Fred Astaire
For more than one half century, Fred Astaire was the personification of Hollywood glamour and style. His elegance and charm captured the hearts of a world-wide audience and he danced and acted his way to international acclaim and super star status.
In 1947, at the peak of his Hollywood career, he helped co-found the dance studio organization now bearing his name. As co-founder, and first president (a post he retained for many years), Mr. Astaire put his personal stamp on every facet of the business. He was instrumental in the choice of dance curriculum, instruction techniques and, of course, the business integrity of the organization itself. Mr. Astaire also personally taught the original class of instructors when the first studio opened in 1947 on Park Avenue in New York City.
Our easy, relaxed official curriculum, "Fred Astaire Steps and Styling" is drawn from the personal style of the man who faced so much beauty and pleasure to the world through his dancing and elegant charm. While Mr. Astaire is no longer with us in person, his spirit lives on in the great traditions and character he bestowed on the International Fred Astaire Dance Studio Organization. Today, the family of his co-founder, the late Charles L. Casanave Sr., continues the tradition of his great American "Master Dancer".
